Rusinga's grounds are home to more than 369 species of local and migratory birds, many not found elsewhere in Kenya.Nearby Bird Islands - a short boat ride from the lodge are one of the most important breeding sites for water birds on Lake Victoria. Vast flocks of cormorants can be seen - wings outspanned to catch the sun's rays in the early morning, or keenly watching the water for fish during the day. Magnificent fish eagles soar overhead and swoop low giving excellent photographic opportunities.

RECOMMENDED ACTIVITIES WHILE AT RUSINGA ISLAND LODGE

Day 01: Arrival at Rusinga Lodge

Arrive for late lunch, afternoon activities to include bird watching within the Lodge grounds, bicycle

riding, a combined visit to the fossil site and the Tom Mboya mausoleum, spot fishing at the jetty,

dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 02: Rusinga Lodge 2nd Day

After breakfast, take a speed boat and visit the Luo fishing villages to learn their lifestyle as well as

activities that take place here, proceed to the bird island to learn about the different types of birds

that live here and their lifestyle. Boat ride to Takawiri Island to enjoy the white sandy beaches with

sporting activities, have a chance to swim in the lake. There will be an option of picnic lunches or go

back to the Lodge for late Lunch. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge

Day 03: Rusinga Lodge 3rd Day

After breakfast, the fishing gear is loaded onto the speed boats off to the deep waters for big game

fishing; this is a very interesting experience that will give you a chance to try your luck in catching

some of the biggest fish species (Nile perch or tilapia). Your catch can be brought to the Lodge and

our chef will prepare it as your next meal. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge

Day 04: Rusinga Lodge 4th Day

After breakfast, you will join our driver guides equipped with your picnic lunches for a road trip to

lake Simbi Nyaima in Homabay as well as Osiri beach to have a rare chance to see millions of

flamingos which migrated from Nakuru and have since made this place their home, after which you

will proceed to Ruma National park which is host to some of the rare and endangered mammals on

earth. Have a chance to sport the Roan antelope, Jackson’s hartebeest, Rothschild’s giraffe, the

white Rhino, the hot springs and a host of resident birds. You will then return back to the Lodge late

afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 05: Rusinga Lodge Last Day
