03 Days Mount Longonot Trekking Expedition

We walk through a National Park containing herds of Zebras, Kongonis, Giraffes and Warthogs with variety of birds. The full day hikes are past towering vulture - inhabited cliffs, down a dry riverbed to the boiling sulphurous springs, hike up Mt. Longonot to the crater, arriving in Nairobi by late afternoon
.

Day 1: Nairobi City - Mt Longonot - Hells Gate

Departing Nairobi in the early morning, you drive to the edge of the escarpment where we stop briefly at the view point, the awesome panorama of the Great Rift Valley stretches out before you with the extinct volcanoes of Suswa and Longonot and the shining water of Lake Naivasha in the near distance. We continue down the escarpment to Suswa from where we start our trek through Hells Gate National Park, past herds of Zebras, Kongonis, Giraffes and Warthogs. The variety of bird life should not be missed. We get to our camp late in the evening for a hot shower, dinner and overnight. (L,D)

 

Day 2: Hells Gate
After breakfast, we enjoy a full day walk. We hike up the vulture-inhabited cliffs and to the gorge, down a dry/wet riverbed to the sulphurous hot springs. Our picnic lunch is in the Park. After lunch we continue up the Gorge and back to our camp for dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)

Day 3: Nairobi
Breakfast, and then we drive to the base of Mount Longonot from where we start our hike to the top (crater). After a picnic lunch, drive back to Nairobi. Drop off at your Hotel to end the tour. (B,L)

4 Days Mount Kenya Climbing Naro Moru Route

The most popular Mount Kenya Climbing route although not the most scenic and the most fastest route to point Lenana. Take this classic route up Mount Kenya though the notoriously treacherous vertical bog and into the wide Teleki Valley beneath the Tryndall, The Lewis Glacier.
 

Day 1: Nairobi | Meteorological Station 3-4 hrs, 10km, 400m ascent
Transfer to Naromoru Park Gate for registration and where the hike starts, 2600m from the gate, keep to the park track, which follows the crest of a board ridge between the Northern and Southern Naromoru valleys. The going is easy and it’s a pleasant walking through the forest. About two thirds of the way up after the bridge there are good views to the left north down into the Northern Naromoru valley. The trek ends at Met station 3,000m where you will have dinner and overnight. B, L, D

 

Day 2: Met Station | Mackinders Camp 5-6 hrs, 10km, 1200m ascent

Head uphill on the track to pass the radio mast on your right after about half an hour. The trek runs into a path and after another 30 minutes, you will reach the end of the forest belt and enter the moorland. This is the vertical bog conditions range from damp to glutinous depending on when it last rained. Continue through until the going improves and you reach a fork overlooking Teleki Valley to reach Mackinders Camp, 4,200m. Dinner and overnight at Mackinders Camp, B, L, D

 

Day 3: Mackinders Camp | Point Lenana | Met Station 8-10 hrs, 11km, 785m ascent

The normal approach is to start at 2 am in order to reach point Lenana taking about 4 hr walk by sunrise at 6:30am. After sunrise, descend down to Mackinders Camp for breakfast, 2hrs and walk further 4hrs, way back to Met Station for dinner and overnight, B, L, D

 

Day 4: Met Station | Naromoru | Nairobi 3hrs, 9km, 400m
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest which is 9km to Naromoru Park Gate at 2,600m then further to Naromoru Town where you will connect with your transport back to Nairobi, B, L

 

 

4 Days Mount Kenya Climb - Sirimon Route

Mount Kenya Climbing Sirimon Route is much more scenic than Naromoru and it is on the drier side of the mountain which offers some of the finest walking. Climb up through forest into a wide ridge approach to the summit area. The route starts on the northwest side of the mountain near Nanyuki. Access is adequate and the bunk house facilities are the best on this side of the mountain.

 

Day 1: Nairobi | Sirimon | Judmier Camp (Old Moses Camp) 3-4 hrs, 9km, 860m ascent
Leave Nairobi in the morning to Nanyuki town for lunch, taking about 3 hours. Proceed to Sirimon Gate, 1 hr, 2440m. From the gate follow the track as it winds uphill though the forest which becomes heath land after about 3 hrs. About 3½ hours from the gate the track veers right to Judmier Camp, 3300m for dinner and overnight, L, D

 

Day 2: Judmier Camp | Shipton Camp 6-7hrs, 14km, 900m ascent
After breakfast, follow the track uphill, forking left at the junction. After one hour from Old Moses Camp, the track crosses Ontulili River. Go right contouring through the Moorland and crossing Liki North and continue uphill to Mackinders Valley from where there are panoramic views up the valley towards the main peaks. Dinner and overnight at Shipton Camp, 4200m, B,L,D

 

Day 3: Shipton Camp | Point Lenana | Judmaier Camp (Old Moses Camp) 9-10hrs, 21km
Leave at 3am up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff clearing visible part towards lower Hall Tarns arriving point Lenana at 6:30am, taking about 3hrs. After the sunrise, descend down to Shipton Camp, 2hrs, for breakfast and further, 4hrs, down to Old Moses Camp for dinner and overnight, B,L,D

 

Day 4: Judmaier Camp | Sirimon | Nairobi 2-3hrs, 9km
After breakfast, walk down through the rainforest for 2 hours to connect with your transport vehicle back to Nairobi, B, L

5 Days Chogoria Route Down Naro Moru Route

Mount Kenya climbing Chogoria Route:- long but spectacular approach through the deep chasm of the gorge valley.

 

Day 1: Nairobi | Chogoria
Leave Nairobi in the morning to Chogoria town for lunch and afternoon leisure walk in the town to acclimatize. Dinner and overnight at Chogoria Transit Motel, 2000m.

 

Day 2: Chogoria | Mount Meru Bandas | 5-6hrs, 32km, 950m ascent

This is a long day along dirt road through the forest although the conditions under foot aren’t strenuous. You may opt to use a 4x4 to reach the bandas as sometimes the road is impassable, 2950m. Dinner and overnight at Mt. Meru Bandas, B, L, D

 

Day 3: Chogoria Bandas | Mintos Hut | 6-7 hrs, 21km, 1,280m ascent

After breakfast follow the track through giant heather and forest up to Chogoria road head from where the path drops to cross a stream then follows the broad ridge to the east of the gorges valley to reach Mintos Hut, 4200m. Dinner and overnight at Mintos Hut, B, L, D

 

Day 4: Mintos | Point Lenana | Met Station |  11-12 hrs, 29km, 785m ascent/1985m descent

Leave shortly after midnight at 2am towards the main peaks and divide after an hour, above a flat green area at the head of the valley known as temple fields, arriving at point Lenana at 6:30am. After taking photographs, descend to Mackinders for breakfast and continue down to Met Station at 3000m for dinner and overnight rest, B,L,D

Day 5: Met Station | Naromoru | Nairobi | 3hrs, 9km, 400m descent
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest which is 9km to Naromoru Park Gate at 2,600m, then further to Naromoru town where you will connect with your transport back to Nairobi, B,LNOTE: You may opt to spend the night at Mackinders Camp and then on to Met station and lastly descend for a transfer back to Nairobi. This will require an extra day ( that is 6 days) to complete
.

 

5 Days Sirimon Route Down Chogoria

Mount Kenya climbing Sirimon route is much more scenic than Naromoru and it is on the dry side of the mountain which offers some of the finest walking. Climb up through the forest into a wide ridge approach to the summit area. The route starts on the northwest side of the mountain near Nanyuki. Access is adequate and the bunk house facilities are the best on this side of the mountain.

Day 3: Shipton CampSpend the day acclimatizing.

Walk to Kami Hut down to Hauseberg Lakes (Hauseberg Tarn and Nanyuki Tarn). Walk back to Shipton for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 4: Shiptons | Point Lenana  | Mount Meru Bandas (Chogoria Gate) 6 hrs, 14km, 785m ascent

Leave at 3am up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff clearing visible part towards lower Hall Tarns arriving point Lenana at 6:30am, taking about 3hrs. After the sunrise, descend down to Mintos hut, 2hrs, for breakfast and further hrs down to Mount Meru Bandas, 2950m, for dinner and overnight, B, L, D

 

Day 5: Chogoria Bandas | Chogoria/Nairobi
Descend 2hr, 15km to forest clearance to catch a 4x4 transfer vehicle to Chogoria Village where you will connect with your transfer vehicle back to Nairobi, B,L.

6 Days Chogoria Route Down Naro Moru Route

Mount Kenya Climbing trekking Chogoria Route Down Naro Moru is by far the most scenic and interesting route. It takes in both tropical forests and moor land.

 

Day 1: Nairobi | Chogoria

Transfer from Nairobi to Chogoria to our base hotel. Rest and acclimatise for the remainder of the day.

 

Day 2: Chogoria | Park Gate
Transfer to park gate dinner and overnight at the gate.

 

Day 3: Park Gate | Minto's Hut
We ascend to Minto’s hut at 4300m that is situated on a plateau overlooking Lake Michaelson 300m below. There are spectacular views of the summits from here

Day 4: Minto's Hut | Austrian Hut

The trail continues to Austrian hut via tooth col which is situated between several rock towers. Overnight at Austrian hut.

 

Day 5: Austrian Hut | Point Lenana | Chogoria Park Gate

An early morning start to attempt the summit of point Lenana, which is only about one hour from Austrian hut. We will descend to Chogoria park gate for the night.

 

Day 6: Mount Kenya | Nairobi

An early morning (after breakfast) 15km walk through the rain forests and bamboo zones to our vehicle to transfer to Nairobi

6 Days Sirimon - Naro Moru with Peak Circuit Route

Day 1: Nairobi | Sirimon | Judmaier Camp (Old Moses Camp) 3-4 hrs, 9km, 860m ascent

Leave Nairobi in the morning to Nanyuki town for lunch, taking about 4 hours. Proceed to Sirimon Gate, 1 hr, 2440m. Day 2: Old Moses | Liki North Camp, 10km, 3hrs, 3900m

After climbing through the rain forest to 3993m. We will spend the night at Liki camp north,B,L,D.

 

Day 3: Liki North Camp | Shipton's Camp, 5km, 2hrs, 4000m

The trail proceeds to Shipton’s camp where we will rest in order to acclimatize overnight,B,L,D.

 

Day 4: Shipton Camp | Mackinders Camp, 7km, 3hrs, 4200m

From Shipton’s camp the trail leads to Kami hut below the north face of Batian. Continuing west – southwest the trails climbs up switchbacks in the fine snow before reaching Hausberg col at 4590m. We will descend into the upper Hausberg valley and rest at the aptly named Oblong and Hausberg tarns. Ascending to the crest of a ridge known as Arthur’s seat we see the trail winding along a beautiful series of rock ledges. We will descend to Shipton’s camp for the night,B,L,D.

 

Day 5: Mackinders Camp | Point Lenana, 7km, 4hrs | Met Station, 23km, 7hrs

An early 2.00 am start for an attempt to reach point Lenana before descending to Mackinder’s camp for breakfast then on to Met Station for dinner and overnight, B, L, D
Day 6: Met Station | Naromoru Gate, 9km, 3hrs| Nairobi
Descend to park gate, then further to Naromoru town for your transfer to Nairobi to end your trek. B, L
