Ngong Hills Hiking/ Walking Full Day Guided Walking

This hiking day Tour starts at 0700 Hours from your hotel or residence and drive to the Ngong Hills. We drive along Ngong Road going past Dagoretti Corner, Karen and Ngong Town to reach Ngong Police Station from where we get an armed escort (Ranger) from the Kenya Wildlife Services and also a local guide.

The sharp spine of the Ngong Hills stretches for 11.5 kilometers and takes about 5-6 hours (without long rest breaks) to walk from end to end. The hike up Ngong Hills starts right from Ngong town at the northern foot of the hills 1961m above sea level, and traverses the whole range to the southern end at “Kona Baridi” meaning cold corner.

Depending, on how fit you are the whole journey can take 4 hours to 5 Hours at most. The first 2 kilometers from Ngong Police Station are a gradual ascent through human settlements until you get to a Kenya Wildlife Barrier barrier indicating the start of the Ngong Hills forest reserve.  From here on, you go past a wind farm, before climbing the first steep hill leading to an area populated with Radio repeater station masts.

The walk thins out and descents into a trough before you climb the next steep hill. Just when you think the worst is over, the rolling hills seem to keep popping up, with each taking its toll on you. The highest peak (7th Hill called Lamwia) on the knuckle-shaped Ngong hills is at 2460 meters/ 8070 Feet above sea level

Thankfully, the views all round are magnificent, making the effort worthwhile. 15 Kilometers to the east is the Nairobi National Park, to the North East is Nairobi city views, and to the west the hills overlook Masai Manyattas 1,000 meters down in the Rift Valley. On a lucky day, you are likely to encounter buffalos around the fourth hill, on account of the abundant bushes at these higher altitudes on the range. To your right is a fantastic view of the Great Rift Valley, while on the far left is a view of the City of Nairobi.

There is a long, sloping walk downward to "kona baridi" corner - cold corner - which is where our driver meets you and drives you back to Nairobi to end your Trekking Excursion
